Abstract: The Cambrian explosion has always been a hotspot of academic research worldwide. As a major region where global geological events and geological evolution took place, Ordos Basin has attracted scholarly attention for geological research on the Cambrian system. Yet studies in this respect awaits to be deepened, and especially, breakthrough is to be made for regional oil and gas exploration. To enrich regional geological data, this study selected nine field sections from the Middle Cambrian Xuzhuang Formation in the periphery of the Ordos Basin. A total of 192 rock samples were systematically sampled, sliced, and identified, with a full coverage of the rock types including terrestrial clastic rocks, carbonate rocks, mixed rocks, etc. This dataset is a systematic assemblage of polarized photomicrographs of the rock sections, which records their mineral composition, content, structural formation, and detailed observation and description of the biological fossils and their diagenesis. It can not only be used to support basic Cambrian geological research worldwide, but also provide basic geological data references for oil and gas exploration at the Middle Cambrian strata in the Ordos Basin.
