Abstract: The microfacies analysis is basic for studying carbonate sedimentary environments. However, the concept of microfacies types includes a strong tendency to categorize which ignore the continuous change between different environments. A photomicrograph dataset of all thin sections sampled from one section is useful to solve this question. This study took the carbonate strata distributed in central Tibet called Langshan Formation as an example. We took polarized photomicrograph of 559 thin sections from 3 stratigraphic sections of the Langshan Formation, and described the location, age, lithology and petrography of these thin sections. The results show the lithology of the Langshan Formation including limestone and dolostone, where the wackestone, mudstone and floatstone are the dominants in the limestone. This photomicrograph dataset can be widely used not only in basic geological research, but also in oil exploration, carbonate facies model of mid-Cretaceous, teaching and popular science.
