Abstract: Impervious surface is one of the most basic components of a city which has a significant impact on urban ecological environment and regional development. This study selected and collected the Landsat remote sensing image data of Haikou city in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2013 and 2016. A double exponential method combining BCI index and BI index was proposed to extract the impervious surface data of the study area. Based on results obtained through this method, the impervious surface distribution maps of Haikou City in the five phases were obtained. A precision validation was then conducted against the high-accuracy Google Earth images. It was concluded that this method was highly operable and easy-to-use, which generated an overall accuracy of over 80%, and a Kappa coefficient of above 0.80. This dataset provides references for rational planning of “sponge city” in Hainan Province and beyond.
