Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of Chinese Academy of Sciences
Deputy Director, Professor
CHEN Gang is Professor and Deputy Director of the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He carried out his PhD researches at IHEP and ETHZ and worked as Post-Doc at Peking University before moving to IHEP as research scientist. Prof. CHEN’s early research activities focused on the large scale particle physics experiments at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). After that his major interests shifted to researches on computing for science.
Prof. CHEN’s research areas mainly include particle physics experiments, computing technologies and applications, data management and sharing, distributed computing, etc. His early physics work includes the experiments of neutron multiplication, τdecay branching ratios, physics design and tests of electro-magnetic calorimeter of Alpha Magnet Spectrometer (AMS02), and development of physics analysis software for AMS02. For computing researches, Prof. CHEN established collaboration with CERN and built the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid in China. He was also leading to build the high performance data storage and management system and scientific computing platform for high energy physics in China.
