JI Liqiang holds a doctoral degree and is Professor at the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he acts as the leader of the Biodiversity Informatics Research Group. Prof. JI is also a member and Deputy Secretary General of the China Committee of DIVERSITAS, a member of the China Committee of ICSU, a member and Deputy Secretary General of the Biodiversity Committee of CAS, a member of the Executive Committee of Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG), and a member of the Catalogue of Life Global Team. Prof. JI’s research interest centers around biodiversity informatics, which mainly includes core technologies and approaches for the collection, sorting, storage, release and sharing of biodiversity information, the biodiversity evaluation methods and tools development, the formulation of biodiversity data regulations and standards, and the planning, design, and implementation of biodiversity database system construction. He has chaired projects to build database systems and application tools like Chinese Biodiversity Information System, Catalogue of Life China (animals), Chinese Biodiversity Information System for Key Regions, China Animal Scientific Database, Encyclopedia of Life China, China Animal Information Network, Butterfly Image Online Identification System, Digital Laboratory for Insects, Specimen Geographical Information Management System, Potential Species’ Distribution System, Animal Behavior Recording Software, System for Automatic Identification of Insect Images at the Order Level, and Full Text Sharing Management System for Journal Articles. Prof. JI published many articles, obtained 10 software registration certificates, and won the third prize at National S&T Progress Awards.
