Abstract & Keywords
Abstract: Changes in the atmospheric electric field are affected by both lightning and solar activities. These changes represent the state of the global atmospheric circuit. The characteristics of the daily average variation in the atmospheric electric field represent the average value of the atmospheric electric field near the ground during quiet periods. This value is of great significance for studying the disturbances of the atmospheric electric field near the ground that are caused by solar activities in the middle and low latitudes. Five long-term positioning field Stations designed to observe the atmospheric electric field, including the Mohe Station in Heilongjiang Province, Nong’an Station in Changchun, Jiufeng Station in Wuhan, Pixian Station in Chengdu and Zhaoqing Station in Guangdong, were set up as part of the Meridian Project. Large amounts of atmospheric electric field data have been measured from these Stations. Through these data, we can strengthen our research on the variation characteristics of the atmospheric electric field near the ground that are caused by solar events. Through space-based and ground-based observations and theoretical research, we can better understand the internal relationships among solar activity, the near-surface atmospheric electric field and local weather changes, and analyze the mechanism of their interactions.

Dataset compositionThe dataset consists of 5 Stations in total, including the Mohe Station in Heilongjiang Province, Jiufeng Station in Wuhan, Nong’an Station in Changchun, Pixian Station in Chengdu and Zhaoqing Station in Guangdong. The measurement data is in .txt format. The data file consists of data items, which are composed of rows of observed values recorded at each point in time in chronological order. The observed values recorded at each point in time contain two variables: observation time and electric field value. The observed values use " " (seven spaces) as separators, with the floating-point type. These values have 4 decimal places.
