Abstract & Keywords
Abstract: The spatial distribution of soil elements in wetlands is affected by many environmental factors, among which the hydrological conditions regulate the soil elements through the change of hydrological cycle and the movement of surface water and groundwater. Since the Dongting Lake Wetland Ecosystem Research Station formally operated in 2009, according to the unified monitoring criteria of China Ecosystem Research Network (CERN), the main physical and chemical properties, nutrient elements and heavy metal contents of soil in the wetland ecosystem under the change of the hydrological situation of Dongting Lake have been measured for long-term locating and monitoring. The soil element content dataset of Dongting Lake beach from 2012 to 2016 were obtained by processing the surface soil element monitoring data of three typical wetland plants (Carex. sp, Triarrhena lutarioriparia and Polygonum hydropiper) in Dongting Lake. This data set contains 14 indicators, including organic matter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, total potassium, available phosphorus, available potassium, total manganese, total iron, cadmium, lead, chromium, nickel, mercury and arsenic. The relative error rate of 14 indicators is 4.26% in average, with relative deviation of 3.77% in average. At the same time, complete background information is attached to ensure the temporal and spatial consistency of data. The dataset is expected to provide data support for soil nutrition assessment, environmental quality assessment, soil contamination risk assessment and environmental soil science research in Dongting Lake.

Dataset/Database compositionThe dataset consists of 5 tables, which are "Dongting Lake Beach Soil Element Content" table, "Plot Information" table, "Plot Management Record" table, "Analysis Method Record" table and "Standard Sample Determination Record" table. The table of "soil element content in Dongting Lake beach" recorded the monitoring data of soil elements in surface layer of three typical wetland plants (Carex. sp, Triarrhena lutarioriparia and Polygonum hydropiper) in Dongting Lake, contained 27 entries, which includes station code, year, month, day, plot code, sampling subplot description (micro-topography), soil type, parent material, vegetation/crop, sampling depth (cm), organic matter (g/kg), total nitrogen (N g/kg), total phosphorus (P g/kg), total potassium (K g/kg), available phosphorus (P mg/kg), available. potassium (unit: K mg/kg), total manganese (Mn mg/kg), total iron (Fe%), cadmium (Cd mg/kg), lead (Pb mg/kg), chromium (Cr mg/kg), nickel (Ni mg/kg), mercury (Hg mg/kg), arsenic (As mg/kg), and remarks, with the total being 26 fields.
